Track the Unknown
A live UAP sightings map and case archive: witness reports, historical case files and strategic sites on one interactive map, with a report flow for signed-in observers.
Sighting reports and historical case files usually live in separate places. Track the Unknown needed one map and one archive where new witness reports and legacy dossiers sit side by side.
We designed and built a dark, map-first web app: an interactive Mapbox map with filters for the last 24 hours, unresolved cases, multi-witness reports, legacy files and strategic sites, an archive of case dossiers, observer sign-in and a report flow.
A live site at tracktheunknown.com with 14 live files on the map and an archive of 14 case dossiers and 24 strategic sites, plus a report flow for signed-in observers.
The Opportunity Shro Identified
UAP reporting is data-heavy, and witness submissions, historical files and official records rarely share a map. We built Track the Unknown to bring live reports and legacy cases together in one place, with an interface designed around the data.
Why the Product Exists and Who It's For
Track the Unknown is for observers and anyone following UAP reporting. It shows what has been reported, where, and how each file is classified, and it lets signed-in observers open a new case file.
Product Strategy and First-Version Decisions
The core loop is deliberately simple: explore the map, open a file, browse the archive, and sign in to report. Files are marked as witness records or legacy historic files, with status labels such as Unresolved and a witness count on each.
UX/UI Approach
The interface is dark and built around the map, with a compact control bar for filters, and a bottom navigation bar on phones for Observe, Archive, Report and Observer. The archive uses dense cards showing case number, status, location and witness count, because the audience values information density over decoration.
Technical Architecture and Data Sources
The map is built on Mapbox, with markers for live files and legacy historic files. The archive turns case dossiers and strategic sites into searchable, filterable lists, with search by location, case number or shape and filters by scope and status.
What Shro Designed and Built Directly
The full product: the concept, the interface design and the build, including the map, the archive, observer sign-in and the report flow. Track the Unknown is a Shro Web product, with no external design agency or third-party development.
Current Status
Track the Unknown is live at tracktheunknown.com, with the interactive map, the case file archive and observer sign-in in place.
What It Demonstrates to a Prospective Client
Track the Unknown shows Shro Web taking a map-led data product from brief to a live site: interactive mapping, structured archives, sign-in and a guided report flow. If you need a data-driven web app designed and built properly from version one, this is the reference point.
