What a trades website needs to win enquiries: a checklist
Customers choose a tradesperson in seconds, usually on a phone. This checklist covers what a trades website needs to turn visits into calls.
People looking for a roofer, plumber or builder are usually in a hurry, often on a phone, and often comparing two or three businesses at once. Your website has seconds to answer one question: can I trust this firm to turn up and do a good job?
This is the checklist we use. You can score your own site against it in ten minutes.
First impression
- The homepage says what you do and where you work in the first screen
- Your phone number is visible without scrolling and tappable on mobile
- There is a clear main action, such as call or request a quote
Mobile experience
- Text is readable without zooming
- Buttons are large enough for a thumb
- A call button stays within reach while the page scrolls
- Pages load quickly on a normal mobile connection
Pages that match how people search
- One page per main service, rather than a single list on one page
- A page for each area you really cover, with genuine local detail
- Clear titles and descriptions so search results make sense
Proof
- Real reviews with names and, where possible, the town
- Photos of your own work, not stock images
- Accreditations shown properly, for example Gas Safe, NICEIC or trade association membership, with the real numbers where required
- Insurance and guarantees stated plainly
Making an enquiry easy
- A short form asking only what you need, such as name, number, postcode and the job
- A reply promise, such as “we answer within one working day”, that you can actually keep
- WhatsApp or email options for people who dislike phoning
Trust and housekeeping
- Your address or service area, and your company details in the footer
- A privacy policy and cookie notice that match what the site really does
- No broken pages, old prices or expired offers
Fixed price if you are a small trade
Not every trade needs a bespoke build. Our sister studio Swift7 builds fixed-price websites for local trades at £700, with a free preview first. If you need something larger, such as bookings, a portal or a bigger platform, that is where Shro Web comes in.
